Lecturer: Dr. Arizumi Mitamura (Lacquer Artist, Professor Emeritus, Tokyo University of the Arts)
Biography: Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1946. Graduated from the Department of Liberal Arts, The University of Tokyo and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972. After serving as Minister of the Embassy of Japan in the United States, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, director of public relations and cultural exchange at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as ambassador to UNESCO, ambassador to Denmark, and commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and is currently a representative of the Kondo Institute for Cultural and Diplomatic Studies and a counselor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2013, he focused on the registration of Mt. Fuji as a World Cultural Heritage Site. He was awarded the French Legion d’Honneur Chevalier (2006) and the 2016 Zuiho Chapter of Gravity. He was awarded the 2015 Japan Academia Prize (International Category) and the 2017 Information Culture Award For International Art.
